Hand trucks should be stored in a manner that ensures safety, orderliness, and ease of access, protecting the equipment from damage when not in use and preventing safety hazards to personnel or the environment. The storage area should be a dry, well-ventilated indoor space; prolonged exposure to moisture, rain, or direct sunlight must be avoided to prevent metal parts from rusting, plastic components from aging, and rubber casters from deforming.
Hand trucks should be parked stably; they must not be left tilted or stacked haphazardly, as uneven stress on the frame can cause deformation. Foldable hand trucks should be folded and their locking mechanisms secured before storage to prevent accidental unfolding, which could lead to collisions or crushing injuries. Additionally, aisles in the storage area must be kept clear to facilitate the movement of equipment and allow for rapid deployment during emergencies.
For hand trucks equipped with casters, ensure the braking mechanisms are engaged to prevent the unit from rolling away. Wheel chocks may be used for extra security when necessary, particularly when storing the equipment on ramps or slightly inclined surfaces. Furthermore, avoid stacking heavy loads on the hand trucks for extended periods, as this can place excessive, prolonged pressure on the wheel axles or compromise the structural integrity of the frame.
Regarding management, it is recommended to categorize and zone the storage area and implement a regular inspection schedule to promptly identify and address issues such as rust, wheel degradation, or structural damage. Equipment that will be idle for a long time should be cleaned, lubricated, and treated with anti-rust measures before being put into storage to extend its service life and maintain it in good working condition. Standardized storage management effectively improves equipment utilization rates and reduces maintenance costs.
